HOWLAND Wilbur "Joe" John Carrell, 82, went home to be with our Lord on August 26, 2007 from a Howland healthcare facility. He was born in Oakland, September 9, 1924, the son of Wilbur and Annie (Ellis) Carrell. Joe served in Army during WWII, spending his service time in Europe. He graduated from New Brunswick Bible Institute in 1954.
He met his beloved wife of 51 years, Dorothy, and they were married February 9, 1956 in Nigeria, Africa while serving as missionaries with the Sudan Mission. He and Dorothy resided in Maine, and are members of Passadumkeag Baptist Church. Joe was a maintenance man in hospitals and worked as a mechanic. He was a selfless man with a servant heart and loved to do for others. He was the cook for family feeds and loved us all dearly.
He was predeceased by his parents; two sisters, Eleanor and Muriel; and a brother, Eugene. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Ada (Schurman) Carrell; a brother, Edward; two sons, John R. and Timothy G., their wives, Diane and Sally; three granddaughters; four step-grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. After WWII, Joe gave his heart and life to our Lord Jesus Christ and made Him his own personal Savior. Joe’s favorite book in the Bible was Job, of which he read through often and now claims Job 19: 25 & 26, "For I know my redeemer liveth and that He shall stand at the latter day upon the earth."
A memorial graveside service will be held at a later date for anyone to attend. Arrangements with Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Rd., Lincoln.
