TERESA "TESSIE" LIBBEY

MATTAWAMKEAG - Teresa Cecelia Libbey, 96, went to her eternal rest Aug. 25, 2010, at a Lincoln hospital. She was born Feb. 5, 1914, in Carroll, the daughter of Asa H. and Annie (Gillis) Stanley. She went to school in Carroll, Eastern Maine Institute, Springfield, EMCS, Bucksport, and graduated from Mattawamkeag High School in 1932. She played basketball four years in high school, two years on the "Keag" Town Team, one year of field hockey and one year of archery. She was active in 4-H; Cub Scouts, being den mother for several years; and Little League, where she was scorekeeper and bus driver for many years. She loved sports. Baseball was her favorite, especially when she had three sons playing on the "Keag" Town Team. She also liked to knit, sew, play cards and talk on the telephone with her friends. She was a charter member and past president of Hamm-McGinley Post No. 7409 Ladies Auxiliary, receiving her 50-year pin in 1996. She was a past president of P.A.P. Club. She was a life member of Pine Grove Chapter No. 55, Order of the Eastern Star, where she was worthy matron for 12 years, and a past grand representative and member of Past Matrons Club. Pine Grove later merged with Onawa Chapter No. 130 in 2001, and later merged with Molunkus Valley Chapter No. 95. She loved Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of United Methodist Church choir for 35 years and was a member of Mattawamkeag Senior Citizens.

She is survived by three sons and a daughter, Herbert Jr. of Mattawamkeag, Herman of South Weymouth, Mass., Dennis and his wife, Jayne, of Bangor and Teresa and her husband, Gerald Clifford, of Brewer; a daughter-in-law, Mary Libbey of Molunkus; 13 grandchildren, Dale (Libbey) Hanscom, Dean and his wife, Gina Libbey, Dixie and her husband, Brent Watson, all of Mattawamkeag, Darrell and his wife, Lori Libbey, of Lincoln, Christopher Libbey of South Weymouth, Mass., Kenneth and his wife, Wendy Libbey, of Hampden, Larry and his wife, Leslie Libbey, of Lincoln, Andy and his wife, Teresa Libbey, of Mattawamkeag, Steve Clifford of Houston, Texas, Cindy and her husband, Dr. Sebastian Cerna, of Corpus Christi, Texas, Dan and his wife, April Clifford, of Ellsworth, and Jessica and Justin Libbey of Bangor; great-grandchildren, James and his wife, Rachel Hanscom, of Mattawamkeag, Jamie and her husband, Dan Stiehl, of Old Town, Luke and his wife, Jana, of Lincoln, Aimee and Tyler Libbey of Mattawamkeag, Brent M. and his wife, Heather Watson, of Glenburn, Brock Watson of Massachusetts, Lorraine and "Bub" Sawtelle of Springfield, Derek and Renee Libbey of Lincoln, Nikkolas and Brittany Libbey of Lincoln, Mikkala and Cameron Libbey of Hampden, Sebastian Jr., Ethal and Olivia Cerna of Texas, Becca Fortin, Emma, Andy Jr. and Abbie Libbey of Mattawamkeag, and Madison, Morgan and Kennedy Clifford of Ellsworth; great-great-grandchildren, Kourtney Hanscom, Sydnie and MacKenna Stiehl, Brandon and Thomas Watson, Domnick, Jillian and Marissa Libbey, Dustin and Kaylie Sawtelle and Delilah Fortin; a brother, James Sterling Stanley of Bangor; a sister, Neta and her husband, Albert Richardson, of San Marcos, Calif.; three sisters-in-law, Flora Stanley of Treasure Island, Fla., Vera Stanley of St. Petersburg, Fla., and a very special friend and sister-in-law, Phyllis Vicaire of Mattawamkeag; several nieces, nephews and many wonderful friends. She was predeceased by a devoted husband of 58 years, Herbert Libbey Sr.; a loving and caring son, Kenneth Libbey Sr.; a daughter-in-law, Marlene Libbey; a great-granddaughter, April Lynn Hanscom; two sisters, Thelma and Marion Stanley; four brothers, Leslie "Mike" Stanley, the twins, Hale and Dale Stanley, and Asa Stanley; and three sisters-in-law, Madalyn Stanley, Frances E. Stanley and Frances M. Stanley.

Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. Services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church, Mattawamkeag, with Pastor Leon Robinson officiating. Committal service will be in the family lot at Mattawamkeag Cemetery. Those who wish may donate in her memory to Mattawamkeag United Methodist Church or Community Pride. Donations may be left at the funeral home.
