WOODVILLE and LINCOLN - Robert P. Ireland, 85, died July 28, 2010, at Cummings Healthcare Facility, Howland. He was born March 13, 1925, in Woodville, son of William and Annie (Chesley) Ireland. Robert was employed by Pratt & Whitney in Connecticut for a short while. He returned to Maine and worked on building I-95 with Sargent's. The remainder of his career was spent working in the woods until his retirement in 1987. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, trapping and snowmobiling.
He is survived by a son, Michael Fleming and his wife, Tracy, of Woodville and grandchildren, Allison and Zachary; daughter, Sheila Schwarz of Brewer and grandchildren, Rachel and Benjamin; stepchildren, Leonard, Rhonda, Gary, Steven, Lisa and Keith; 17 stepgrandchildren and 24 great-stepgrandchildren, as well as Jake; three sisters, Helen Murchison, Elsie Crabtree and Charlotte Smith; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by seven brothers, Charles, Nathan, Ernest, Edwin, Roscoe, Walter and Ralph; and two sisters, Leona Murchison and Irene Gordon.
Graveside services will be held 2:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6, at Woodville Cemetery with the Rev. William Chesley officiating. Arrangements with Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln.
