MARTHA MARIA (THOMPSON) CORBETT
Helen Steiner Rice has written that "The end of the road is but a bend in the road." Today, Friday, March 7, 2008, another one of God’s daughters, at age 84, has gone around that bend in the road that seems like the end of the road of life but is just the beginning of a new and much better superhighway.

Martha Maria (Thompson) Corbett, was born March 1, 1924, in Medway, the oldest daughter of Melvin and Sarah Abi (Powers) Thompson. She attended grade school in Medway and at the age of eighteen she worked for a short time at Eastern Maine General Hospital, Bangor. She married Anthony Corbett in 1942. She moved to New York with her husband and children in 1962, where she lived in the Catskills for 32 years. She returned to East Millinocket in 1994 where she lived until the time of her death. She was a faithful member of Calvary Temple Assembly of God Church, East Millinocket. She loved her Lord, her church and her family.

Martha is survived by one daughter, Betty (and Mel) Todd, Nixa, MO; five sons – Don (and Julie), Orangeburg, SC, Gary (and Millie), Tallahassee, FL, David (and Joyce), Cuba, MO, Paul (and Rita), Imperial, MO, and Dale (and Dianna), Jacksonville, FL; six brothers – Carl Thompson, Mattawamkeag, Basil Thompson (and Ruth), Tampa, FL, Alton Thompson (and Sharon), Osceola, IN, Virgil Thompson (and Amanda), Hackensack, NJ, Arnold Thompson (and Donna), Caribou, and Joseph Thompson (and Debbie), Edwardsville, IL; six sisters – Geneva Michaud, East Millinocket, Dorothy (and Lewis Doane), Kingman, Robena (and Hugh Dugans), La-Grange, Evelyn (and Don Wright), Foxboro, MA, Joann (and Vernon Hunt), Bucksport, and Gloria (and Roger Anderson), Mineral Point, MO; fifteen grandchildren, six step grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren, eight step great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins, many good friends as well as her special friend, Raymond Jones, East Millinocket.

Martha was predeceased by an infant son, Gerald; her husband, Anthony Corbett; both of her parents; step mother, Ethel (Blanch) Thompson; three brothers – Melvin Thompson, Jr. (Georgia), Myles Thompson, and Harold Thompson (Patricia Melvin); a brother-in-law, Patrick Michaud (Geneva); a sister-in-law, Lurene Worster Thompson (Carl).

Visiting hours will be held 6-8:00, Sunday at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln and from 10:00 to noon, Monday at Calvary Temple Assembly of God, 2 Orchard St. East Millinocket. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Monday at Calvary Temple with the Rev. Regginal Adams officiating. Interment will be held later in the spring at Old Medway Cemetery, Grindstone Road, Medway.
