LINCOLN - Louise T. Leighton, 83, wife of the late George Leighton, died peacefully May 20, 2010, surrounded by her three children and her oldest grandchild at her home, after a short, but courageous battle with cancer. She was born Aug. 3, 1926, in Lincoln Center, the daughter of Charles and Geneva (Emerson) Tash. Louise put her family first and foremost. She loved family get-togethers, especially around the holidays. She instilled her love of music and her love of the outdoors in her children. She enjoyed her half-mile swims at the camp on Little Narrows and thoroughly enjoyed camping. She was an accomplished seamstress and sewed her daughter's and granddaughter's wedding gowns. Louise was a member of Lincoln Center Baptist Church.
She is survived by three children, Gary Leighton of Lincoln, Susan Haun and Michael of Bangor and Nancy King and David of Westbrook; a sister, Florence Tash of Lincoln; eight grandchildren, Heather Lamson and Dan of Bangor, Nathan Leighton and Mallory of Lincoln, Ryan Leighton and Alli of Bangor, Joshua Haun and Rachel of North Carolina, Bethany Haun and Zachary of Brewer, Rebekah Haun of Bangor, Jacob King and Adam King, both of Westbrook; two great-grandchildren, Aiden Lamson of Bangor and Natalie Douglass of Brewer; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband, George Leighton, she was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy Whitten; and a brother, Clarence Tash.
Friends may call 6-9 p.m. Monday, May 24, at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln, where a celebration of her life will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday. Interment will be at Lincoln Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Lincoln Center Baptist Church. Donations may be left at the funeral home.
