CHESTER - John F. Emerson, 89, husband of the late Josephine (Rollins) Emerson, passed away Jan 7, 2008, at a Lincoln healthcare facility, with his loving family around him. He was born Oct 7, 1918, in Bangor, the son of Fred and Addie M. (Hamilton) Emerson. John was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II. He worked for 36 years at the mill in Old Town, retiring from James River Company. He was a member of the Elks Club in Old Town and was a member of Good Sam’s Club. He enjoyed his camp on Folsom Pond, and loved fishing. He enjoyed camping at Parks Pond, and was a caretaker there. John was a member of the Chester Baptist Church, and at age 75 was baptized by Pastor Wayne Perry. He read the Bible daily, faithfully for many years. He was a very caring and giving man.
He is survived by five children, Linda and Keith Stratton of Chester, Joseph and Linda Emerson of Greenbush, Peggy and Richard Cote of Alton, Frederick Emerson of Chester, and Charlotte and Wendell McClure of Murphy, North Carolina; two sisters, Phoebe Wade of Bradford and Alice Houston of Bangor; 13 grandchildren; several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife of 64 years, he was predeceased by brothers, Alfred "Buster" Emerson, Charles Emerson, Kenneth Emerson, and Oscar Emerson; and sisters Charlotte Niles and Mary Gallant.
Friends may call from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Rd Lincoln. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Keith Cushman officiating. Spring Interment will be in Enfield Village Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to either the Alzheimer’s Foundation or St. Judes Hospital. Donations may be left at the funeral home.
