Dorothy A. Carrell

HOWLAND- Dorothy A (Schurman) Carrell went home to be with our Lord and savior on October 17, 2009 in Howland. She was born Sept 17, 1923 in Halifax Nova Scotia, Canada, the daughter of Robert and Ella Schurman She graduated nursing school at Toronto General Hospital in 1948, then attended New Brunswick Bible institute graduating in 1953 and then went to Nigeria Africa under the Sudan Interior Mission as a nurse / missionary. While attending bible school she met and fell in love with Wilbur J Carrell (Joe) They were married February 9, 1956 in Egbe, Kabba Province of Nigeria Africa. Returning home to the states in 1958 she used her nursing skills as a RN at the veterans Hospital in Augusta and later at Thayer Hospital in Waterville, then retired from Eastern Maine Medical Center Bangor.

She is survived by two sons John R. and Timothy G. Carrell, their wives Diane and Sally; seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren.

A committal service for family and friends will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gould's Ridge Cemetery in Passadumkeag Arrangements with Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln.
