CECIL KEITH DOWNARD
LINCOLN - Cecil Keith Downard, 75, husband of Eleanor Ann (Knowles) Downard, passed away Oct 28, 2007 at his home. He was born Feb 11, 1931 in Bowling Green, Ohio, the son of Cecil K and Nora (Wichrow) Downard. Cecil was a member of the National Guard from May, 1947 to Feb, 1948, and the U S Coast Guard from July 2, 1948 to July 5, 1951 and served in the Coast Guard Reserve for 10 years. He had been a volunteer fireman, and a member of the Eagles in Coldwater, Michigan for two years. He was a member of the American Legion where he became a Life Member in 1974. He received a citation for meritorious service, served as sergeant of arms, and was Penobscot County Commander of the 5th District for one year. He was assigned by the Portsmouth NH Harbor Masters as Seabrook NH Area Harbor Master and also worked as a police officer in Seabrook. He moved to Maine in 1990 and was a member of the American Legion in Lincoln. He joined the Knights of Columbus Association, was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, was a 4th degree Knight, served as Association of Knights of Columbus President for 6 years until the first of 2005. He received Knight of the Month from 2001 to 2004 and was Deputy Grand Knight. He joined the Forty and Eight in 2000 and was a Life Member. At St. Mary’s Church, he served as Eucharistic Minister and on the Church Council.

In addition to his wife, Eleanor, he is survived by three children, Ann Downard of Lincoln, Cecilia Meyer of Seabrook, NH, and Darlene Haynes of Barnstead, NH; two brothers, Leroy and George Downard, and a sister, Juanita Cutchall, all of Michigan; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Rd Lincoln. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church, with the Rev. Myles Cyr officiating. Interment will be in Lincoln Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association. Donations may be left at the funeral home.
