ALTON PHILLIP TOLMAN
Mattwamkeag-Alton Phillip Tolman, 79, husband of Delight (Downs) Tolman, passed away peacefully, April 16, 2011, at a Bangor hospital. He was born October 4, 1931, in Chester, the son of Ernest and Frances (Stratton) Tolman. Alton was a 1949 graduate of Mattawamkeag High School. He married Delight Downs and together, they raised five boys. Alton was employed at Forster Mfg., for a number of years. He worked at Lincoln Pulp and Paper for more than 20 years, retiring in 1994. He and Delight enjoyed several winters in Florida. Alton was a member of Anah Temple Shrine of Bangor, a 41 year member of Pine Tree Lodge #172 AF & AM, of Mattawamkeag and Mt Horeb Chapter #49 RAM. He was a member of Molunkus Valley Chapter #95 OES of Sherman. Alton was known for his quick wit and enjoyed telling stories. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed hunting with his sons. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Alton loved his family dearly. They were his life.

In addition to his wife of 60 years, Delight, of Mattawamkeag, he leaves four sons and their wives, Bliss and Sheila. Bion and Lisa, all of Mattawamkeag, Bruce, of Lee and Brad and Kathy, of Illinois; a sister, Geraldine Morse, of South Carolina; eight grandchildren, Wayne, of Mattawamkeag, Scott, of Georgia, Delight and Jason, of Illinois, Kristina, of Carmel, Nicholas, of East Millinocket, Tyler and Katelyn, of Mattawamkeag; three great-grandchildren, Sean, Mandy and Elizabeth; several nieces, nephews and cousins and his cat, Smokey. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Bret, in February, 2011 and a brother, Richard.

Friends may call form 12-2, Tuesday, April 19, at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Rd., Lincoln where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., with the Rev Leon Robinson officiating. Interment will be in Mattawamkeag Cemetery. Those who wish may make donations, in his memory, to the Lincoln Lakes Regional Dialysis Center, c/o Healthcare Charities, P.O. Box 931, Bangor, ME 04402.
